How do students try out? In class, students will sign-up for each game they are interested in trying-out for in a Google Forms on Google Classroom. Depending on how many students sign up for a game, tryouts will be held for that specific game to determine teams during their esports class period. Typically, our largest games which will require a tryout will be Fortnite Builds, Fortnite Zero Builds, Rainbow 6 Siege, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart. This year, we had 34 students sign up for Fortnite Box Fights and the same for Rainbow 6 Siege-- an afterschool try-out may be necessary to determine the final top-player spots. This will be announced fairly last-minute and will only apply to top scorers.

How do players make the team? For Smash Bros & Mario Kart, I will run round-robin brackets on Challonge. For Smash, the top six players make the team. For Mario Kart, the top four players make the team. For FPS and 3PS games, students will go head-to-head in a custom lobby. I will create an overall composite player score based on time alive, elims, damage dealt, damage taken, headshots per minute, etc. The top ranking players will make teams and others will be listed as alternates.

Virtual Series Games
These games are recognized at state championships, but students do not travel to state to compete in person. They are to be played after school on Weekdays. The days may vary depending on student schedules and involvement in other activities.

Core Series Games
These games are played from the HMS Esports Room on ONE Saturday each month. Students will be competing against middle schoolers from school districts across the state. If qualifying based on season performance, these games are played in-person at the OKSE State Championships in Bixby, Oklahoma.

For the Fall 2026 season, this game was not offered at the middle school level. Because we have so many R6 players, the esports league has approved us playing-up at the high school level. Rainbow 6 Siege game dates will be different than those listed above. Please see the schedule linked below. Matches will still take place from the esports arena, we will just be going head-to-head against high school teams instead of middle school teams
Traveling Game
On one Monday each month, teams will travel to various hosting school districts to compete in-person. Depending on performcance in the first three tournaments, students may qualify for/travel to the OKSE State Championships.
